an Arctic seal, Phoca hispida, having irregular, pale, ring-shaped markings around its body.

For the bladder they use the hide of a young ringed seal (Phoca fœtida).

The skin of the great ringed seal (Phoca fœtida) is also used, but not so frequently.

The Ringed seal is locally called "floe rat" and "gum seal."
